An eclectic open concept family room (& fabulous art)...

Hey guys, here's a Design Board I created for a new client, and I'm so excited about the art I found on-line at Gallerydirect.com!  More on that later, but first let's talk about the board...

This open concept family room - dining room is designed around my client's existing sage green sofa and dark dining table.  So I went with a blue/green color scheme, gold accents for warmth, and dark wood furniture for contrast.  When I asked my client about her design style, she said she loves everything and has a hard time choosing just one style.  Well that is exactly the reason I love eclectic design, because it's a mix of several styles.  Here we've got a traditional sofa and table, paired with mid century modern art and club chairs.  In addition to that we've got a few wood pieces with clean lines that offer nice contrast and earthy textures.   the overall look is very eclectic and a little boho chic!

Okay now back to the art!  This awesome 48 x 48 inch art piece is from Gallerydirect.com and is on sale at just $233.  Regularly $465 with free shipping.  That's a huge savings!  They're having a great sale right now, go check em' out - www.gallerydirect.com

If you'd like more information regarding my Design Services, check out our newly designed website here.  And we've added a new service called Fixed Rate Interior Room Designs.  Yup, instead of by the hour, I can design a whole room or space at a one time affordable rate you will love :)

Spring Tour of Homes!

Hey guys, I'm so excited to be joining the 2014 Spring Home Tour this week hosted by Vidya from What's Ur Home Story!  The only problem is the temperatures here in Charlotte have been anything but Spring like.  In fact, it still kinda feels like Winter.  Oh well good things come to those who wait right? Well if that's true then Spring and Summer will be perfect this year ;)

This is our family room below that we actually just gave a total room makeover with simple paint.  We painted the walls a cool gray - SW Useful Gray and even painted our dark red brick fireplace the same color as the wall.  We also added a new gray/blue rug in a fun pattern for a whole new lighter look that is perfect for Spring.  Click here to see the very dark Before, you won't believe the difference a little paint can make.

Now to be honest, I'm not a flower girl.  I love them outside, but I only use cut flowers in vases on special occasions.  But I do love a few potted plants and other nature inspired accessories in our home.  Looking at my mantle I'd say I'm a minimalist.  I also love clean lines mixed with bold patterns.

This lamp below used to be bright turquoise which didn't coordinate well with our new gray/blue color scheme.  So I revamped my lamp and spray painted it in Valspar's Color Radiance in the color Mellow Spring. I love this fresh new color.

This picture below shows our entire family room and how it flows straight out onto our screened porch.  A year ago these french doors had mullions.  I removed the mullions for a cleaner and more modern look.  This has been my favorite change in this space because with the glass doors open, it's brought the outside in, and the view of our half acre wooded back yard is wonderful!

Here's our screened porch below.  I recently added a little color with these fun pouffs from Target.  On Spring and Summer evenings our whole family hangs out here.  We simply love our screened porch!

And then straight behind our screened porch and nestled near the woods is our Diy Fire pit!  This is a fire pit kit that we bought from Home Depot (on-line only) and is very affordable.  We enjoy our fire pit with our family and friends mainly in the Fall and Spring.

And finally here are a few of my favorite plants that I pot every Spring!   I flank our screened porch with simple ferns and they thrive in this shady area.  Literally they live from Spring straight through to Fall!  And then in the corner of our driveway I use Lilly's, sweet potato vine, coleus and I even pot a grass plant.

Okay guys that's what Spring looks like around our home.  I really love minimal design that's light and airy, as well as an eclectic mix of many different styles.  Also creating comfortable outdoor spaces makes getting outside much more enjoyable when the warm weather finally arrives.  Okay who's got Spring fever?  I sure do.

Be sure to check out the entire Spring Tour of Homes, here's this weeks round up...

Give these gals above a shout, and check out their fabulous Spring style!

Color change up...from maroon and gold, to gray/green and gold!

Hey guys, I've been busy with Design Consultations and Color Consultations this past month and I'm noticing a problem many of my clients are having.  They're tired of the wall colors in their homes and don't know how to change things up, without having to paint the entire house (which can be very costly).  And the two colors I'm seeing a lot of are gold and deep maroon!  Yup, this color combination evidently was very popular back in the late nineties and early 2000.

Well here's my advice if you don't want to paint your entire house...keep the gold, but switch out the maroon with cool blue/green grays that still coordinate nicely with gold.  In fact, I think these colors look beautiful together because the gold is warm and the gray is cool, balancing one another.

A recent client has the main portion of her entryway, hallway and family room painted gold - similar to this color below in the board.  Then in her kitchen which flows right into the family room she painted an accent wall a deep maroon, making the space feel dark and dated with too many warm tones.  So we did a color change up by simply switching out the maroon wall, and maroon/gold art and pillows with cooler colors in gray greens, blues and cream.  Here's a Design Board I whipped up...

I am loving this color combination!  The green/gray is Sherwin Williams' Oyster Bay and balances nicely with the client's existing gold walls.  Then of course I removed all the maroon/gold pillows and art, and incorporated new accessories in soft hues of blues, grays and creams giving the space a light and airy feel.

Okay if your home's color scheme is feeling dark and dated.  Consider a simple color change up!  By painting an accent wall and purchasing a few new accessories in the same color family, you can change the look and feel of any space.

Blog Break, and a fun feature!

Hey guys,  I'm still here!  Just taking a blog break while I build a new website for my local Design Business - Finding Fabulous by design, LLC!  Wow, figuring out where to buy or build a website (on a budget) can be tricky.   I started with Wix.  But then after two days of designing the site, I found out that their sites aren't indexed by Google...really!  Well that's a deal breaker.
So I ended up over at Go Daddy!  So far so good.  They have great customer service and their price packages are very affordable.  And wow, my site is looking great!  I hope to have it up and running next week.

And a Feature!

Beth, a fellow Charlotte designer, from Design Post Interiors  invited me to take part in her "Take Two" series the other day.  I answered a few questions and showed off our painted brick fireplace, it was fun!

Check it out here.

And definitely check out her site if you haven't.  She's super talented and her blog has so many fabulous interior design ideas.  Right now she's drawing up plans for a client's shared boys bedroom.  It's super cute!
