Design with Re-purpose!

I absolutely heart this Headboard! It used to be an old pocket door...add white paint and trim moldings and it's now a fabulous Headboard. And how pretty is that sconse lighting? I've got to find a salvage yard in Charlotte...this project is right up my alley!

Here's a simple idea. Store your table lines in Vintage Suitcases! And stacked suitcases look great on top of a dining room Hutch or Armoire. Cute and functional! And who doesn't need more storage?

These beautiful magnets used to be Vintage brooches. What a great idea, just take off the pin and glue on a magnet. How simple is that?

Finally, thiese Vintage Silver pieces get new life when re-purposed as kitchen hooks!

Hmmm, this has got me thinkin'...about items around the house that I can re-use or re-purpose into something else.

I just love these creative ideas...they're fun, functional, and stylish too!

DIY In Our House...A Family Affair!

DIY projects in our house are a family affair!

In this photo my husband and kids (who love to help out!) are tearing out this 80's, peach colored tile. Yes we must have been crazy to buy a house with peach tile! Anyway, we replaced it with a warm, earthy slate and carried it into the wine room. Did I mention my husband built a wine room? I love that man! That sure is some stylish eye protection kid #2 has don't you think?

Revamped Adirondack Chairs

These red adirondack chairs are one of my all time favorite Diy projects!   And with Spring around the corner, I thought the timing couldn't be better if your looking for a little warm weather inspiration for your next outdoor project!

In my opinion, spray paint is a DIYer's best friend! Let me list the reasons why:
  • Inexpensive...I've said this before but paint is cheap!
  • Easy...just point and spray. Now of course you need to spray long even strokes holding the can 8 - 10 inches from your target. Also, remember to apply several thin coats of paint.
  • Fun...I think of all the Do-it-Yourself projects out there, spray painting is one of my favorites, and often provides instant gratification.
  • Economical...did I mention spray paint is cheap. Let me reiterate this...you will save $$ on every project!

These old adirondack chairs had seen better days that's for sure!  Yup, they were old, faded, cracked, and just plain wore out.  So much so, that I was undecided as to wether I should renew em' or just trash em'!  But the Diy Diva in me came out and go the job done.  Yup, I revamped these babies with spray paint!

Here's a run down of the steps I took to complete this project. First, I lightly sanded the wood and removed all loose dirt and paint. Second, I applied two coats spray primer - Killz is my primer of choice. Third, I applied several thin coats of spray paint in Rust-Oleum's Regal Red. And finally, I applied one light coat of Polyurethane protective clear finish.

So now that these old chairs are renewed again, I am thrilled with the result, and can't wait to kick back with the Hubby this Spring/Summer. That's the beauty of DIY projects...it's all about taking old pieces and givin' em' new life...and for me there's nothing more rewarding!

What outdoor Diy projects can you tackle this Spring?
