Frugalicious Friday...Simple Zen Votive Candles

...

Welcome to Frugalicious Friday! This day is all about sharing your fabulous, thriftiest...most frugalicious home decor Finds! And if you revamped or renewed your find in a fab Diy project, tell us about that too...we can always used a little extra Diy inspiration! Are you new to Finding Fabulous? Here are the guidelines for this fun day that's all about $aving!

Okay, lets get this party started! My frugalicious find are these simple Zen votive candles I put together from...where else, the Dollar Tree! Yup, I started with these basic items, all $1 each: 3 square glass votives, 1 bag of black rocks, and 3 white votive candles (3 for $1). All together these zen votives cost just $5...yeah baby!

This is so easy...I put the candle in the votive, then placed larger rocks in the bottom, and smaller rocks on the top.

I like the modern, clean lines of these square glass votives! And I love the contrast of the black rocks with the fresh white candles.

Line em' up three in a row...very simple, very Zen! The word Zen means quiet and calm. Hmmm...believe me when I say my crazy house with 2 kids and 2 dogs needs a little Zen. Actually it needs a whole lotta Zen!

Ahhh...dollar store finds inspire a simple Zen home accessory, without breakin' the bank! What's your frugalicious find? Link up...join the party and share your fabulous finds!

Gettin' My Craft On!

......
I've confessed before that I'm not real crafty, but more of a Diy kinda gal. Well, I have to say lately I've been gettin' my craft on since decorating with craft supplies is fun, easy and affordable...love that!

I've been wanting to create personalized wall art for my daughter's bedroom for quite some time now. The problem was I didn't have an exact idea of what I wanted to do. Well, all it took was a trip to Michael's Crafts to get inspired.

Here's what I found: Craft paper for less than $1.00, pink glittered up letters for $4.99, scrapbook sticker's $1.99. Yup, this project will be well under $10 since the frame and the ribbon, I already have.

Here are the pink letter's I started with. Frankly, I thought they were too glittered up, and there were areas where the paint was chipped...we can't have that!

So I gave them a coat of paint in the same bright pink color, then blotted off the excess to show just the right amount of glitter. (although it doesn't show well in the photo)

Then I assembled everything using tacky glue. And the ribbon I used to cover where the craft paper overlaps...and cuz it's cute!

And here it is finished! This project was fun, easy and super thrifty...all the things I love about crafty decorating! And the look on kid #2's face when she sees it...priceless!

Frugalicious Friday Favorites!

...

Yay...I'm super excited! Frugalicious Friday was a hit last week with 23 participants...our biggest day yet! Thank you to everyone who linked up. Here are a few of my favorites from this fun, thrifty day all about $aving!
...
Sherri from her blog Design to Shine took old jars, including this recycled ranch chip dip jar and made super cute candle votives! She used old jars (any kind will work), frosted glass spray, jute rope, cute stickers and coffee beans. And created super cute, one of a kind, candle votives...I love these!
..

Marion from Mustard Seed Creations linked up her frugalicious find called Stone Fruit. Frankly, I had never heard of stone fruit before, but aren't they beautiful! Evidently they're carved from marble and rare pieces can go for upwards of $60 on ebay...wow! Marion scored these beauties from Goodwill for just .68 cents each, now that is one sweet frugalicious find!

And finally, Beth from The Stories of A to Z showed us her adorable Feather Boa Wreath she made from Dollar Store items! How cute is this...a chic little wreath for around $3, ya gotta love that! ...

Frugalicious Friday...Antique Chairs get a Modern Update!

...

I found this fun fabric from Garden Ridge and was instantly inspired to recover two century old antique chairs passed down from my Husband's Father's side of the family.

Sorry I don't have a better "before" picture, but as you can see from the picture I do have... intervention is clearly needed here! The dark wood is still in good condition, but the leather seating...once beautiful, is falling apart.

For padding a hundred years ago, they evidently used straw or hay for cushion. The Hubby and I hated to cut this original leather seat, but this stuffing had to come out!

Here I've got my supplies lined up...batting, fabric, scissors, staple gun, this project is super fun and easy and takes from start to finish just a couple of hours!

First, I cut the batting and used a staple gun to attach the batting to the bare wood seat.

Next, I generously cut the fabric and used staples again to tightly attach the fabric to the seat. These corners can be tricky, so I used pleats to secure the extra fabric.

And here they are finished! I love this fun, modern fabric combined with these dark, traditional antique chairs!

So my fabulous find, inspired a fresh modern update to a century old set of antique chairs! I love giving old things new life! What's your frugalicious find...link up and join the party!

Frugalicious Friday Favorite!

Frugalicious Friday is slowly growing every week, and I'm loving all the fabulous finds and Diy projects you've linked up! Thank you to everyone who has participated, every new link on the MckLinkey list makes me smile from ear to ear.

Kate from her blog The Gaines Gang linked up one of my favorites. Kate is a self described thrift store junky and creative soul. Her blog features a little bit of everything from thrifty decorating to cooking to even a glimpse of her amazing vintage book collection!

Kate's post was titled: "Doin' Halloween the Goodwill way". Take a look at these super thrifty Halloween decorating ideas.

Here's the frame Kate started with. Don't you just love a super "ugly" before picture! She snagged this baby at Goodwill for just .90 cents.

And after some spray paint, scrap book paper and glittered up plastic house numbers, look how cute this is...so fun and creative!

And how spooky is this little accessory? Kate found this mini brass candlestick for just .50 cents. It was so dark she didn't even need spray paint. She just used spray adhesive and Martha Stewart super fine black glitter. How easy is that? Love, love this idea!

Thanks Kate for linking up! And if you haven't visited The Gaines Gang yet, swing by for a visit when you get the chance...she's got many more creative ideas and her blog is a lot of fun!

Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint...a Frame Transformed

..

So some of our picture frames are starting to look old and dated, ugh!  But instead of buying new ones...I grabbed my favorite Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint by Rust-o-leum. I love this stuff!

Here's the before. This frame was actually in a different room of our house, but I wanted to give it a new look to fit in with our Great Room which has dark wood floors, a leather club chair, and warm brown and red fabrics.

First things first, I taped off the black velvet backing to protect it from the paint.

Spray painting is one of my favorite Diy projects because it's so simple! Just point and spray 10" - 12" or so from your target, spraying back and forth...long even strokes.

Once the paint is dry, don't forget to dry brush on a little gold paint! This gives the frame highlights and low lights...very important when achieving the oil rubbed bronze look!

And here it is finished! This frame really works now with our dark wood furniture and warm color palette. Ahhhh, spray paint love...I never knew this existed until I found Rust-o-leum's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint! If you haven't tried it yet...go get some, You'll love it!

Be sure to check out my latest Giveaway going on right now! GoShopUs is offering a 5' x 8' Cotton Shag Rug! Click here for details on how to win this beauty!
