A Monochromatic New Look!

After decorating our house for Christmas this year, I looked around my great room and was overwhelmed with the color red.  The deep red drapes, along with all the red Holiday decorations (even red throw pillows and blanket) were just too much! Clearly I needed a change to get out of my "red rut".

So I went on-line in search of new curtains with a more neutral n' monochromatic vibe! And I found them from a great on-line decorating resource...Ebay!

Yup, I scored 2 sets of Pottery Barn Contrast Band Drapes in the color espresso/Ivory for just $150 for all four panels. That's a pretty good deal considering this is PB were talkin about! And did I mention they're 96 inches in length, my ceilings have never looked taller...love that!

Here's the before picture:

And here's our great room now with the new drapes. What a difference this monochromatic new look makes, even my 10 year old son said "mom, it really brings more light into the room!".

So we've got a new monochromatic start to 2010 around here, and I gotta tell ya, I'm lovin' it!  Change is good, don't you think?

That room was beautiful before, but with the simple change of curtains, it's truly fabulous! I absolutely love the way the whole room seemed to open up. You're a genius!

Lovin' the new look! It is amazing how the color brightens up the room. I love the red but the khaki looks so fresh and clean. Great find! Happy New Year

I may or may not be in a red rut, too. I seriously need an intervention. : )

I totally get you. I have been going more neutral in the last 6 months. I figure with 4 kids and a hubby that the house needs to be calm to counteract all the chaos.
It also makes it easier for me to change things up

What a great deal! Makes for a nice change! Maybe you can keep the red and put them back up for Christmas only?

I'm a big fan of red, if it weren't for all the dust, I'd probably leave my Christmas stuff up all year. But I know what you mean, sometimes we all need change. You should post a linky on Sarahs blog, Thrifty Decor Chick, I have a link on my page if you can't find her, she started a new party for 2010 "before and after". If I could get outta this slump I'm in I woulda joined in, LOL. Thanks for sharing! I love Potterybarn!

I saw an episode of ColorSplash where they put the drapes up to the ceiling rather than just the top of the window to give the room more height. I LOVE IT! Your space is homey and warm.

Really pretty...although I like the red as well. The room is stunning either way. I hope you held on to those red ones to change them out down the road if you want color. :)

I love it. May I ask where you got your leather chair and ottoman? I have been looking for a set for a while. I ordered one but had to return because it was NOT comfortable!

Wow! What a difference such a small change made! I liked the red, too, but now the room looks really terrific, much more soothing. Great job!
I love using neutrals for all the major surfaces and adding punches of color (or not, depending on my mood) with pillows and accessories. It's so much more economical as well!
Happy New Year. I'd love for you to stop by sometime!

I am so glad I happened upon your blog because I have deep red (wine) colored sheers on my living room windows and want a change. I also have white sheers with them. I am ready to change and am trying to decide what color to get. I do like the neutral color. I may have to go that way also. Or maybe look for something springlike (light yellow). Thanks for the idea.

The curtains look great, tho I like the red as well. Its just so good to have a change and keep things lively thereby.
I repaint rooms more than my dh would like. He thinks when they are done they are done, poor guy.

It's hard to imagine that window treatments could make such a difference in the room. I keep going back and forth between pictures, and yep -- everything else is the same. LOVE the new curtains! Thank you so much for sharing this post at the Boardwalk Bragfest!
