Vintage Inspired Coasters!

I have a confession...I've never used Mod Podge before, crazy huh?

So the other day I was looking at our monochromatic family room and thought this room could use a little color!  So I set out to make coasters using craft paper and Mod Podge.  Here's how it all went down.

Here are my supplies.  I chose craft papers in soft turquoise and green.  These tiles I found at the re-store for 25 cents each.

Using the Mod Podge, I started by adhering the paper to the top of the tile.

Then I put a thin layer of Mod Podge on top of the paper allowing 15 minutes to dry before adding another layer.

Here they are drying.  Kid 2 made a cute butterfly coaster...we have so much fun crafting together!

Each coaster has 3 thin layers of Mod Podge...this should protect the papers from any water damage.

Here they are finished, although I still need to add a cork backing to protect my table from scratches.

I'm lovin' these soft, vintage looking patterns.

Cute and functional...two of my favorite things!

This craft is positively the perfect rainy day project, and took just under 2 hours to complete.  Now I've got fun, pretty coasters that also protect my table from water marks.

My first experience with Mod Podge?  Yup, Mod Podge rocks!!!

I'm linkin' this fun little crafty project to all my favorite days...

Very cute! I have "make coasters" on my project list. The paper you chose is really pretty, I like that they coordinate but 2 very different prints in different sizes. I'll have to keep that in mind because it WORKS! Well done!

Those are very cute! I used slate tiles as coasters once (until my little girl used them as frisbies) and I just used 4 little plastic knobs (i think we got ours at walmart) that stick to the bottom in each corner. Cork would work really great too though!

LOVE your coasters, and love modge podge. You could also add felt to the back of the tiles, seemed to work for me.

Very cute coasters. Just wondering if the modge podge will get gunky when a wet cup is set on it. Might what to check before doing that. Or put a clear coat on it so it won't come off.

I LOVE this idea! Is there anyway that you could glue the tiles together to get one big square so that it could be hung on a wall? What glue would be best? How would I attach a ribbon for hanging? Thank you for the project -- it's gorgeous!!!!
