She's Crafty...a feature!

...

Hey there, it's time for my weekly feature I like to call "She's Crafty"!  Today I'm featuring Marissa from her new blog Home Sweet Homebodies for her simply adorable little shelf revamp

Yup, she took this old shelf from drab to fab and here's where it all began...yikes, this shelf is b-o-r-i-n-g!  But Marissa saw potential.

First, she gave this baby a little black glossy spray paint love...

Then she added this fabulous scrapbook paper...don't you just love this damask pattern?  It's so chic...love that!

Marissa used Mod Podge to adhere the scrapbook paper, then added cute little knobs.  Yup, that's it...what a fun n' easy week-end project!

Here we've got a little side view action...ca-ute!  I love the clean lines of this shelf in contrast to the traditional design of the paper.

And here it is finished and all gussied up with Valentines day decorations!

Great job Marissa!  You are definately one crafty chic!  If you get the chance, stop by and visit Marissa at Home Sweet Homebody.  She's new to this crazy blogging world, so let's give her a warm welcome!

And regarding Frugalicious Friday this week...Did you see, did you see?  We had over 125 people link up their fabulous finds, crafts and Diy projects!  Holy Moly, think of all the money we $aved!  Thanks for linkin' up and I'll have the Recap for you on Tuesday, and announce the winner of that fabulous burlap pillow from Flea Market Trixie then too!

Accessorizing Book Shelves...on the cheap!

So excited over here...our bookcase has finally been painted!

Here's the "before" picture below.  That's me with kid 2 and my two other furry babies.  There's the dark n' dated bookcase behind us...yup, that dark oak wood just had to go!  And the color we chose was a fresh white to bring more light into the room.

Here they are After...

Ahhh, simply Amazing what a little paint can do isn't it?

As soon as they were painted, I went straight to work accessorizing these babies...on the cheap!  I really didn't want to spend a lot of money, as I'd rather put that money towards bigger items in the room like some nice curtains or even furniture.

The first items I gathered were books...both my favorite ones and some vintage thrift store ones that I snagged for 25 cents each!  Then I stacked those books and even collections of magazines in various ways to add interest.

Then I turned my attention to the picture frames.  I added a new copper frame that I scored from The Pottery Barn Outlet in Gaffney, SC.  However, all the others I already had on hand.  Two frames I spray painted with my favorite Rustoleum Spray Paint in oil rubbed bronze.

Next I added a few shells from our family vacations.  After all decorating isn't just for show (okay maybe a little)...but I love decorating with items that have personal meaning and memories!

See the small black frame with the shell print?  That's just a dollar store frame with free Vintage Printable Art that I printed from my home computer...so simple!

The small black chest I've probably had for 15 years or more.  It was brown with painted flowers.  I sprayed it black to contrast against the white paint.

And finally the splurge.  With most of my decorating projects I always like to add one cool item that I just LOVE & gotta have.  Here it's the metal Ampersand that I bought from Restoration Hardware!   I love how it adds a bit of whimsy to the whole design.

Okay, so that's how I decorate a bookcase...on the cheap!  In a nutshell it's all about surrounding yourself with things you love...including family memories, a few thrifty finds, and some revamped accessories too.

Happy Accessorizing!

White Book Shelves...Revealed!

...
Wahoo...I am so excited!  Our bookshelves which we had painted white are finally finished and accessorized!  Here's a picture of what they used to look like:

Yup...see them behind me, kid 2 and my dog's Ginger & Bear?  They were old, oaky and dated!  So just a couple of weeks ago we had them painted a fresh white.  Okay, I know your wondering why I didn't paint them myself?  Well to be honest, we don't paint EVERY single project in our house.  Sometimes it's nice to just call the painter's!  And besides, they can do in one day what takes me and the hubby 2 weeks!

Here they are finished:

Ahhhh, isn't it just a breath of fresh air?  I am loving this light and bright new look!  And accessorizing this baby has been fun and thrifty too!  In fact, for Frugalicious Friday tomorrow, I'll give you the low down on how I accessorized these bookshelves, on a budget, for less...yup, without breakin' the bank!

So check back in tomorrow, and I'll give you the scoop on how I $aved!  And while your here don't forget to link up your Diy projects, crafts and fabulous finds...because we want to see how you $ave!  See you then.
