What a Hoot!

Don't you love the chic owl trend in home decor lately?  These designs below were featured on one of my favorite trend setting sites...Apartment Therapy!

Kristy from The Diary of Dave's Wife scored a couple of vintage ceramic owls from her local Goodwill store, and revamped em' with one coat of primer and two coats of high gloss white spray paint.

{Sigh}  Aren't these a hoot...so fun!  These owl's went from old and dated to modern and chic in minutes!

Chic Winter Wreath!

Wow, check out this Chic Winter Wreath from Make The Best of Things!  
Ann made this with an old grapevine wreath, white spray paint, dried eucalyptus, faux flowers, foil twist ribbon, and assorted ball ornaments. And the colors here...white, silver, blues & teals.

Diy Bottle Lamp!

Don't you LOVE a good knock off Diy project?  Check out this Diy Bottle Lamp from Vintage Finds!
Here's the Inspiration photo.  Yup, you guessed it...Pottery Barn all the way!  Hard to believe but these lamps originally cost between $210 - $350 each...yikes!

Here's what Mallori made for a whole lot less...

  Isn't she pretty?  This lamp was made with an old wine jug, a lamp kit and a new retro lamp shade.  And with a total cost of around $40, the savings are Awesome!

An Eclectic Dining Room...Finding Fabulous by design!

Many of you may not know that I offer Affordable Design Consultations locally here in Charlotte, NC.  My business is called....Finding Fabulous by design and every once in a while, I like to write about my latest design projects.  
For this project, my Client's dilemma was how to incorporate her mid century modern dining room table and sideboard (that her Grandfather actually built!) with her existing old world chandelier.  Yes...mixing mid century modern with traditional/old world isn't an easy task.  So I got started by creating a mood board.  Thankfully my client loved it from the beginning!   

Here's how the design is coming together.  *Please note the room is not finished...we still need paint, and a few accessories ;)

Isn't the client's table and sideboard beautiful?  To soften those straight lines, I added upholstered seating.  The cream parson's chairs are from World Market, and the slipcovers actually remove to wash...love that!  The blue tufted upholstered chairs are from Home Decorators and come in several colors and fabric choices. 

The rug with it's quatrefoil pattern ties in with the old world chandelier.  I love this rug...it's simple, chic, and elegant.  It really sets the tone for the whole room. The tray ceiling above the chandelier will be painted a smokey gray light blue.  I love how the warm neutrals in the room contrast with the cool creams and blues.

In the initial mood board I used a gray hutch with clean lines.  However, the client (for now) plans to keep her traditional mahogany hutch.  The plate collection in the pass through to the kitchen adds one final traditional element to this truly eclectic dining room.

Hand Painted Welcome Matte!

Wouldn't you love to welcome your Holiday guests with a matte like this?
Heather from {Twenty} Something hand painted this using Martha Stewart's new Plaid line.  She simply taped off an area, and then free handed her letters.  Her number one tip...start with the middle letter first. Love the simplicity here!

A Christmas Tee {for the lil' ones}

I love this!  Mainly because it's a no sew project.  Okay, there is a wee bit of sewing involved.  But just a few stitches here and there, and that my friends is my favorite kind of project ;)
It's a Christmas Tree Tee  from Vixen Made!

Vixen created this Holiday cutie with a plain white tee, fabric lace and sequins.  She simply cut the lace in the shape of a Christmas tree and attached it with heat n' bond (a paper backed iron-on adhesive).  Finally, she stitched the sequins a few times and VOILA...
 A super cute Holiday Tee that looks like it was bought from a swanky lil' boutique for way too much!

Diy Mercury Glass!

Ahhh, mercury glass...just one of my favorite design elements when decorating for the Holidays!  That perfectly imperfect sparkle and shimmer adds a vintage vibe you will love.

Anna from Take the Side Street created her own DIY Mercury Glass with three simple things...glass containers, spray paint and a vinegar/water solution.  The results...Beautiful!
