Painting Soffits!

Yes I know...I'm a total dork in this photo below!  But you see I needed a photo for both my blog and design business locally here in Charlotte, NC and well the only person on hand was my 12 year old son!  I'm smiling here because he clearly isn't holding the camera straight.  He did end up taking a good photo here though, such a good little photographer ;)

But the real reason I'm showing you this is to highlight a simple change we made over the week-end.  See the tan wall above our built-ins?  Well let's just say it isn't tan anymore.  Yup, we painted the soffit above our built-ins,such a simple change...and they look great!

Here's the before...

And the After...

This is such a great trick for making your built-in cabinetry look custom and taller!  We did this for our kitchen cabinetry too.  Check it out...

See the soffit area just under the trim moulding?  That used to be covered in a fruit border wall paper of all things!  That is before I removed it and totally made over this once orange and oaky kitchen.

Okay, painting your soffits = big impact!

That's fabulous! It makes the ceiling look higher! Have you thought of adding some little "legs" to the bottom? I forget what they are called, but I think they are used for corner moulding.

Wood countertops. They have all the elements of smooth finish and elegant looking surface but there are few things that make the granite tile more efficient and cost saving.

That looks great! I have soffits in my 1986 kitchen that project out - don't follow the line of the cabinets. But I still might try it.
